Inotiv offers several procedures to access catheterized vessels for injection or sample withdrawal in the mouse and rat models. While each method of catheter access and closure offers unique advantages, our standard catheterization closure is the subcutaneous pouch with fixed exteriorization.
Other exteriorizations include, but are not limited to, use of a harness, PinPort™, or Dacron mesh button. Inotiv is also able to offer our catheterization models implanted with a Culex™ catheter, hydro-coated catheter, heparin-coated catheter, or silicone or polyethylene catheter. For complete descriptions of exteriorization options for catheterized rodents, please reference catheter exteriorization options.
Inotiv has the surgical experience and IACUC approval to provide multiple catheters implanted into a single animal.
If you require a combination that is not listed, or would like to request pricing, please contact us regarding the specific surgical services you require.
Dual catheterization models
Inotiv's catheter patency is verified by our surgical staff post operatively and at the time of shipment. All catheters are guaranteed patent at the time of shipment.
For the rounded-tip catheter (our standard tip configuration forjugular vein, femoral vein, portal vein, femoral artery and carotid artery catheterizations) the client should confirm patency two-to-four days following arrival of the animals; routine flushing regimens should be completed every five-to-seven days thereafter.
For the blunt-tip catheter (standard for all non-vascular catheterizations), the client should confirm patency upon arrival and perform a routine flushing regimen every three-four days thereafter. If nonfunctional catheters are identified during the initial patency check, clients must notify Customer Service or our Veterinary Science, Research and Support team within 48 hours.
Recommended flushing regimens for all catheterizations are detailed on the post operative care sheet accompanying each surgically-modified animal order.
