Inotiv’s standard catheter exteriorization is fixed, not allowing for access of the coiled subcutaneous catheter tubing.
A small midline skin incision is made dorsally, between the scapulae of the animal, and a subcutaneous pouch is created near the incision, to house the excess catheter tubing.
The catheter is tunneled subcutaneously from vessel insertion point and exteriorized out through the dorsal skin incision. Of the two (2) dumb-bell suture points on the exteriorized end of the catheter, the first is placed under the skin and secured with non-absorbable suture, anchoring the catheter in place.
A sterile wound clip is placed over the skin incision and catheter, effectively and simultaneously closing the incision and anchoring the catheter in place. The second colored dumb-bell suture point on the exteriorized end of the catheter is placed extraneously and secured to the skin with non-absorbable suture, again anchoring the catheter in place.
Approximately 25 mm of catheter is exteriorized and the catheter end is sealed with a sterile stainless steel plug. Animals must be singly housed.
Inotiv is able to provide a second subcutaneous pouch closure method, where the coiled portion of the subcutaneous catheter tubing (an approximate eight cm length) is able to be withdrawn from the pouch. At the exteriorization site, two (2) sterile wound clips are used to close the skin incision and anchor the catheter to the skin. In this modification, only the colored extraneous dumb-bell suture point is utilized. Approximately ten mm of catheter tubing is left exteriorized and sealed with a sterile stainless steel plug. After the client cuts the suture surrounding the colored extraneous dumb-bell suture point, the subcutaneous catheter tubing can be pulled from the subcutaneous pouch. Animals must be singly housed.
